St. Raphael’s College invited us to their matinée performance of their ‘Back to the 80s’ production. Fifth and sixth class attended and thoroughly enjoyed the show. Thank you to St. Raphael’s College for hosting us.
5th and 6th class Engineering Project On March 21st, 5th and 6th class pupils designed and created wind turbines! They made the wind turbines out of old scraps such as , milk cartons, skewers, foam eggs. card, paper and string. The children split up into groups of three and started sketching their wind turbines. Soon after, they started to create their masterpieces. It took a few tries but they finally finished them. The aim of the wind turbine was to be strong enough to lift a weight. We tied a paper clip to a piece of string and tied it to the wind turbine. The students blew as hard as they could to see if their turbine could lift the weight. Some students started lifting pens, pencils, rubbers and other things. We had a show and tell for the 3rd and 4th classes where we talked all about our inventions. All our designs were different, some had big blades and some had smaller ones, people even used origami! We tested our wind turbines outside, some of the wind turbine's blades turned and some didn't. If your blades were really small it wouldn't catch the wind but if they were too big and heavy they would weigh it down. In the end some worked quite well and some were not as successful. Altogether we had a great time making this experiment! Here are some pictures and videos to show our work!!! Written and typed by Leah G and Jessica W. RECIPE
